So you perfected your resume.

You wrote a stellar cover letter.

You researched the company.

You are ready for the interview, and you’re certain you’ll get a call back from the employer.

Crickets.

You send a follow-up email.

More crickets.

You muster up the courage to actually pick up the phone and *gasp* call them.

A cacophony of crickets.

The short answer is, out of the many things you could have done wrong (your resume is not tailored for the position, there are typos in your materials, etc), you probably only committed one or two mistakes.

In most cases, little mistakes are suffered, but take a peek at this list of 25 Reasons Why You Didn't Get Picked for an Interview for ways to step up your resume, cover letter, and application materials.
